Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows. Windows 10 unlocks new experiences for customers to work, play and connect.

Compatible Devices

Windows 10 will be for tablets, smartphones and embedded products, too.It will run on the broadest types of devices ever, from the smallest ‘Internet of things’ device to enterprise data centers worldwide. Some of these devices have 4-inch screens, and some will have 80-inch screens, while some don’t have any screen at all.”

The Start Menu

Windows 10 combines familiarity of Windows 7 with the modern interface of Windows 8. The menu is split: On the left, apps are displayed in the familiar Windows 7 style, while on the right are more colorful live tiles that open the modern, Windows 8-style apps. In addition to this, the start menu has customization enabled, so you can re-size the tiles and move them around, and make the start menu tall and thin or long and flat.

Virtual Multiple Desktops

This is the most exciting and alluring feature of windows 10. Create desktops for different purposes and projects and switch between these desktops easily and pick up where you left off on each desktop. You can also have multiple desktop configurations open and switch between them. So if you have two apps on the screen for a particular task, sized just how you want them, and then you change to some other apps, you’ll be able to get back to those first apps easily without having to re-size them again. You can navigate through several of these desktop displays at the bottom of the screen.

Snap Augmentation

Windows 10 allows four apps snapped on the same screen with a new quadrant layout. It will also show other apps and programs running for additional snapping and even make smart suggestions on filling available screen space with other open apps.

Layout

With Windows 10, the familiar “windows” metaphor is back; you’ll be able to re-size the new-style apps and drag them around the screen like an old Win32 app. Apps from the Windows Store now open in the same format that desktop apps do and can be re-sized and moved around, and have title bars at the top allowing for maximize, minimize, and close with a click. If you’re using an older Win32-style app, it will be able to “snap into place” and fill all the available screen space just like the modern apps.

Windows 10 has a feature like OS X’s Mission Control that lets you zoom out and see everything that’s open on a PC, then select any app to enter it.

There’s a new task-view button on the taskbar for quick switching between open files and quick access to any desktops you create.

It will be touch enabled, so you’ll still be able to use touch to do things like scroll and pinch-to-zoom on laptops and desktops.

Charms Bar

Windows 10 brings down the mini Charms Menu from the top left corner of an app. This has the three dots that give you any extra commands, now clearly labelled as App Commands, the Search, Share and Settings charms that are usually on the Charms bar, plus other useful commands like Play, Print and Project, plus the option of running the app Full Screen.

The Command Prompt

If you’re a programmer, then this feature will surely delight you. In Windows 10, you can change the size of the command prompt window. In addition to this, you can finally use familiar keyboard shortcuts to select a line or a word at a time, and to copy and paste text.
